Skiing this week

After all the brutal cold, it feels so warm out there.  I actually could ski on my purple glide wax today!

The Tormondsen Trail is incredible and such good exercise.  The width makes is great for all level of skier out there, and the snow depth the crew made just incredible.  You'll have to take a gander when you are out there.  The trail is groomed for skate and classic skiing.
Some of the outer trails have been okay to ski on too although the cover is a bit thin.  Best to bring your classic skis and perhaps not your brand new ones.  Battell Woods have been beautiful, I just love the trees in there.
See you soon.

5k Tormondsen Race Course is complete

Cold and sunny today with winds out of the south west.
Again dig out your GREEN waxes, cover your ears and nose, put a little vaseline on your cheeks and have a great adventure.
The woods have been a haven from the wind.

The Rikert Snowmaking and Trail Crew has done a superb job opening up 20 km of groomed trails for skiing.   Snowshoeing and Snow Biking is another great option with 50 km of trails open.

You have been anxiously waiting, and yesterday the Snowmaking and Grooming Crew (Matt, Alex, Mark, Kirk, Noah, Chas and Mike) celebrated the completion of the Tormondsen Race Course.   Not a small job after all the torrential rainstorms and warm spells we had during December and January.  Give them a pat on the back when you see them.

Come grab your skis and give the 5k a go.  The course has been groomed for both Classic and Skate.
See you there.

Monday Morning

Another great day to be out and about.
The fields are a bit wind-blown, but once you are in the woods it is wonderful.
So head on in to the woods and have fun.
After the last snow fall more terrain is open to play on.
Right now the temperatures feel fabulous, but will be dropping again.
50 k open for snow shoeing and snow biking.
20 k groomed for skate and classic skiing.

Snow, wonderful snow ......

We've been waiting for this!
Sunshine, new snow, 8 trails open, and 20 km groomed!
Pack your bags, and head on up to Rikert this morning - dress in many layers - it is cold.
Bring a buff for your face and cover your ears.  Wax up those skis with any green waxes you can find (wax-less is great too) and have a fantastic ski.
Or come and snowshoe or snow bike, the woods are magical.
The lodge will have a fire going in the wood stove, and there is sure to be something warm to drink or eat.
See you there,
Carrie

Saturday morning from Rikert

Hello there,
The current ski conditions are fabulous.  The weather is warmer than it has been although the wind and lack of sun makes it a bit nippy.  So bring lots of layers to wear, a buff for your face and you should be good to go.

  • For the general public we have the field, the first loop and the sugar house downhill open, additionally people have been skiing across the road in the fields.
  • We are hosting a High School classic race this morning from 10 am - noon.  Pretty exciting to watch all these kids ski, so come on up and cheer them on.
  • At 1 pm there will be a Fat Bike event - run on trails surrounding Battell woods, and single track through the woods up by the First Loop.
  • BKL will be held at 1:30 pm today - dress your kiddos in lots of thin layers.

Good morning from Rikert

Sunny, crisp, cold, and gorgeous.
We have 4.5 km of beautiful groomed skate and classic skiing, and there are
50 km of excellent Snowshoeing and Fat Biking.

Wax for the day is anything GREEN or Blue, so dig deep and see what you have stashed away - otherwise we can help you here at the shop.
Bring a buff for your face and dress in many light wicking layers.  Then come into the lodge and warm up by the fire.

A perfect Nordic Weekend was had at Rikert.

A perfect Nordic Weekend was had at Rikert.
Filled with Dion Snowshoe Racers who covered a fantastic 5k course
through fields, trails and single track wooded terrain - a most impressive
stamina challenge.     For results click here

The trails groomed for classic and skate ski enthusiasts, are keeping smiles beaming.

Refueling with locally made soups and freshly baked breads and pastries
with a hot cup of cocoa by the wood stove - is pretty great.
