The Weekend in Review

A beautiful weekend that left us with a little bit more snow than we started off with.
The skiing is great on our trails, especially on the Tormondsen Trail.

The outer trails are great for classic skiing, with more snow to come!

Skiing this week

After all the brutal cold, it feels so warm out there.  I actually could ski on my purple glide wax today!

The Tormondsen Trail is incredible and such good exercise.  The width makes is great for all level of skier out there, and the snow depth the crew made just incredible.  You'll have to take a gander when you are out there.  The trail is groomed for skate and classic skiing.
Some of the outer trails have been okay to ski on too although the cover is a bit thin.  Best to bring your classic skis and perhaps not your brand new ones.  Battell Woods have been beautiful, I just love the trees in there.
See you soon.

Monday Morning

Another great day to be out and about.
The fields are a bit wind-blown, but once you are in the woods it is wonderful.
So head on in to the woods and have fun.
After the last snow fall more terrain is open to play on.
Right now the temperatures feel fabulous, but will be dropping again.
50 k open for snow shoeing and snow biking.
20 k groomed for skate and classic skiing.

Snow, wonderful snow ......

We've been waiting for this!
Sunshine, new snow, 8 trails open, and 20 km groomed!
Pack your bags, and head on up to Rikert this morning - dress in many layers - it is cold.
Bring a buff for your face and cover your ears.  Wax up those skis with any green waxes you can find (wax-less is great too) and have a fantastic ski.
Or come and snowshoe or snow bike, the woods are magical.
The lodge will have a fire going in the wood stove, and there is sure to be something warm to drink or eat.
See you there,
Carrie

Good morning from Rikert

Sunny, crisp, cold, and gorgeous.
We have 4.5 km of beautiful groomed skate and classic skiing, and there are
50 km of excellent Snowshoeing and Fat Biking.

Wax for the day is anything GREEN or Blue, so dig deep and see what you have stashed away - otherwise we can help you here at the shop.
Bring a buff for your face and dress in many light wicking layers.  Then come into the lodge and warm up by the fire.

Preparing for a great Nordic Ski season

September 2013

Now as kids have headed back to school, the leaves have begun to change, and apple trees are heavy with fruit, it is clear that Fall is about to round the corner quickly.  The time for warm apple cider, and the smell of apple pies are in the air, and the evenings require another layer of clothing.
These are all harbingers of the frosty air that soon shall descend upon our mountains and bring us
wonderful SNOW.

Mike at Rikert Nordic has been hard at work preparing the trails for a fantastic winter season.
This past week he has been very busy with a mini excavator upgrading drainage on the trails, and making a great re-route on the beginning part of the
Battell Trail.

Finally Kids, that deep hole you used to get stuck in, is no longer part of your route.  The re-route parallels the old trail, but has a much more gentile approach through some beautiful hemlock trees.  Personally I cannot wait to ski on the new section of the trail.
It just feels right and looks fantastic.

See you out there soon.
